Look at the word. That means the nature of doing business is being busy? If you are a businessman and you are always busy, that is normal. But, what kind of busy are you? The type of busyness sometimes can define your future success.
1. Time-busy:
This is basic. There are so many things needed to be done and you don't have enough time. Running a company, and managing a team... takes lots of work to do. If you are a startup founder, that is even worse. Wait, let's dive into a bit more specific. Are you busy micromanaging? Are you busy because of procrastination and unplanned activities? Are you busy because you, the boss, want to get involved in everything? You don't know how to delegate? Your company depends too much on you?... If the answers are mostly NO and it's just because you have lots of deals and clients coming, lots of opportunities come and you don't wanna miss, then it's a good problem to have. But if the answers are mostly YES, those are some red flags. This type of being busy is toxic and will hurt you.
2. Mind-busy:
This one is sometimes underestimated. You can have this one even without number 1 above. It is what's going on in your mind. It might come from several reasons: you are stuck with your direction, midlife crisis, you got lost along the way, you are confused, not sure if this business is really what you wanna do, personal matters at home, personal mental problems...You are just not clear and do not function at your best. If you are extremely time-busy with a clear mind, you can enjoy the journey. You won't give up. If you are not so time-busy but mind-busy, you are suffering. This red flag is much more serious. And if you are both time-busy (in a toxic way) and mind-busy, you are f$%ck up. It will destroy you slowly. Be careful.
So, be honest. What kind of busy are you?
